About

Stephen Palmer has a number of key interests which underpin his research. His work in organizational, coaching, coaching psychology, psychotherapy, counseling and clinical settings relates to reducing stress and enhancing performance.

In December 2004 he became the first Chair of the British Psychological Society Special Group in Coaching Psychology. He is Honorary President of the Society for Coaching Psychology, Institute of Health Promotion & Education, and the International Stress Management Association (UK). He was the first Honorary President of the Association for Coaching.

He has authored or edited over 35 books and published over 150 articles on stress, coaching and coaching psychology, counseling, psychotherapy, suicide, CBT and REBT. He co-edited the Handbook of Coaching Psychology (with Whybrow). He is the UK Co-ordinating Editor of the International Coaching Psychology Review, Consultant Editor of The Coaching Psychologist and Counselling Psychology Review, and Executive Editor of the new journal Coaching: An International Journal of Theory, Research and Practice. He is Emeritus Editor of the International Journal of Health Promotion & Education.

He received from the British Psychological Society, Division of Counselling Psychology, the Annual Counselling Psychology Award for 'Outstanding professional and scientific contribution to Counselling Psychology in Britain for 2000'. In 2004 he received an Achievement Award from the Association for Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy. In 2008 the British Psychological Society, Special Group in Coaching Psychology gave him the 'Lifetime Achievement Award in Recognition of Distinguished contribution to coaching psychology', awarded at the 1st European Coaching Psychology Conference, 2008. 

He is Director of various Centres and the International Academy for Professional Development.

His personal interests and pastimes include art, jazz and walking.
